Let's Celebrate JD!

So I know that this post is waaaaay over due, but I just have been so lazy about downloading our photos, so I just haven't made the time to write the post about our sweet little boy JD, who turned one a month and a half ago.

Having JD in our family has brought new challenges and joy into our lives (mostly the joy part).  JD has always been a little ball of energy from the day we brought him home.  Now I saw 'little because he is a little guy, since he was born he has stayed in the lower percentiles for both weight and height, were as Olivia started out average and quickly shot up to the 80th percentile.  JD hasn't started walking yet, but he is just so close that we know we will be chasing him around on foot soon.  So for the time being we will continue to chase him around while he crawls, and boy does he crawl fast.  He is also quite the dare devil as well, the day after he started to crawl we found him half way up the stairs.  From that day on, he is always looking to achieve new heights.  I've caught him standing on the most precarious things such as his bumbo chair, stools and other objects that just aren't made for a little boy to stand on.  His crowning achievement was conquering the TV stand.

Olivia and JD just love to play with each other, I can only hope that their love of playing together will continue for a long time.  Olivia is such a gentle and sweet sister with her brother and just loves to make him laugh.  JD loves to play with balls, chase the cats and play peek-a-boo.  He has even learned how to say peek-a-boo.  JD is such a hands on learner which has made it interesting to observe him learning things.  Olivia learns by observing things so she would just start doing things out of the blue.  JD, on the other hand, learns by doing things so we get to see his learning in action.  Olivia did most of her learning by watching which is why she gets so frustrated when she is trying something new.

There is so much more to tell about JD but it is hard to remember all of it.

July: Holidays and Reunions

July sure was one busy month for our family.  At the beginning of the month we all enjoyed the fireworks.  Olivia especially enjoyed playing with everyone from the family.  The fireworks did make her nervous, but as long as she had her dad to her, she was ok.  JD on the other hand was just mesmerized by them.  He didn't like me covering up his ears and was constantly pulling them off.  For the rest of the month, and even now, Olivia is constantly talking about the fireworks.

At the end of the month most of my family came together for a family reunion.  It was so much fun letting Olivia play and get to know her cousins, especially her cousins from Canada.  We enjoyed walking along the Logan River by Bonnie's house, a fireworks show in Grandma and Grandpa's backyard, a 4th of July Parade, Swimming, a hike to the Wind Caves and some good ol' bonding time at Grandma and Grandpa's.  It was a fun filled couple of days and we were so sad to see everyone go, but before everyone left we were able to share some news with everyone.

Frankie finally got a job in a management position!  We are so excited for him and the new possibilities that lie right before him.

Uncle Hab is showing Olivia how to do push-ups while we wait for the fireworks to start

The walk along the river was beautiful for the adults to look at and fun for the kids to play by

The hike was fun, but the kids sure did get tired

JD the Chili Bean

So in about a week, our little man, JD, will be 11 months old and I must say that it has been a crazy 11 months at that.  JD has definitely presented a whole new set of challenges that we didn't have to face with Olivia, but it is because of these new challenges that we have grown more and more in love with our little Chili Bean.  It has been so rewarding to see him hit new milestones and see how different he is at learning things than Olivia was.

From day one JD has been a lot smaller of a baby than Olivia was, but he has so much more energy than she did.  It took him a lot longer to sleep through the night, but I also attribute that to the fact that I was more likely to respond to his cries for fear of waking up Olivia.  He is a big mama's boy, which has only become more prevalent as he has gotten older.  The next person that he just absolutely loves is his sister.  I just love to watch them play together, they are quite the pair.  Olivia has only shown love towards her brother, not once have I seen her show jealousy or resentment towards the attention I need to give to JD.  In fact, whenever I tell her that I need to go and feed JD or put him down for a nap she looks right at me and says "Go ahead mommy".

He started to crawl just before he turned 9 months, but for a good 3 weeks before he started to crawl he would push himself backwards and just hope that got to the place he was hoping to reach. He sure did get stuck in a lot of small corners.  The day after he learned to crawl forward, we found him climbing the stairs.  He is extremely ambitious and will try to climb just about anything and everything.  Already, he has probably doubled Olivia's bonks and bruises count in her whole life.  Since the day we found him climbing the stairs we have been trying to teach him how to go down the stairs, but he seems to have forgotten how to go backwards, even though that's all he did for a good 3 weeks.

When Olivia was a baby I tried my best to keep the floor picked up, but I didn't worry a whole lot about her putting things in her mouth, because she just wasn't all that interested with her mouth.  JD, on the other hand cannot be left alone for a second.  If I think that I have everything picked up, he still manages to find something to put in him mouth.  I also have to be careful to remind Olivia to not give things to JD as well.  He sure is a big handful, but it is an adventure that we love taking.

Look what I got Lily....
Hey, give it back!  That's MY Binky

He sure knows how to make a mess
Umm....a little help

Never mind, I got this covered
Who could resist that smile

7 Years and Counting!

A week ago marked 7 years being married to my best friend in the whole world.  Because our anniversary was on a Sunday, we decided to celebrate on Friday AND Saturday.  On Friday morning, we traveled up Logan Canyon to the Beaver Lodge and went horse back riding.  It was a lot of fun, but it really worked out the legs.  After that, we went down into Garden City and ate dinner at Cafe Sabor.  On Saturday, we took Olivia to her first movie in the theater to see Brave, she had a blast.

Here We Go Again

We knew that it had to be done, but it doesn't mean that you have to like it.  Almost 4 years after the accident, Frankie had to go in for one last surgery to have his bite corrected and it sure was a doosey.  His face hasn't been this swollen since the surgery that put him back together, except his recovery time was a lot faster, and his face wasn't as tramatic looking.  The surgeon had to cut his lower jaw in two places and move it so his teeth can actually meet again.  It has been 3 weeks since the surgery and he is doing great, but it is still very hard to chew which means, no steak for awhile.

Does this shirt make my face look fat?

Las Vegas Baby!

I know that this post is a month late, but what can I say other than our computer has been acting up lately.

For Memorial weekend, we decided to make a very last minute trip to Las Vegas to visit our favorite Vegas family, The Allens.  Frankie had just been informed that he would be going back under the knife again to have his jaw broken again to reset his bite.  So he needed some distracting from the impending doom, so we packed up and headed South.

We had a blast and enjoyed every minute.  We got to see a movie in the park, walk around some beautiful gardens, enjoy a Las Vegas Buffet, see the beautiful Red Rock Canyon and so much more.  Olivia and JD really enjoyed playing with their cousins and Frank and I enjoyed the company of Jeannie and Jay.
